Challenging Custom Applications

Challenge: Cooling Towers

    Challenge:

Provide fall protection to workers entering cooling tower cells to service exhaust fan rotors. Design system for use by up to three workers at a time, ensure it meets OSHA requirements and, do not allow loading on deck to exceed 60 psf.

The solution shown was so well-received, a second unit was purchased for outages. Note the three self-retracting lifelines suspended from a horizontal lifeline.

Challenge: Bridge Crane

  Challenge:

Provide fall protection for up to two workers ascending this large bridge crane to do daily maintenance. Free fall distance of to concrete floor under this crane approximately 75'.

We could not make any permanent penetrations or welds to the bridge crane itself, nor was there room to install tie-backs or forward gussets to support the end anchor stanchions.

Note bolt-on adjustable beam clamp (next to ladder) used to secure end-anchor stanchion to crane. Also, compression member above horizontal lifeline bolsters end-anchor stanchions.

This system was installed in less than an hour.

Challenge: Performance Hall Renovation

         Challenge:

Provide 100% tie-off fall protection to contractors restoring the DeVos Performance Hall in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Note the several balconies with > 1,500' of exposed, leading edge fall potential.

Project included hazard assessment, supply of equipment and training of site contractors.

Ongoing Inspection and Service

  Challenge:

Design and supply elevated access and fall protection for contractor to be able to install a multi-horizontal-lifeline system in a very tight space ~50' up in a food processing facility.  System to be used thereafter for horizontal lifeline inspection.

A moveable steel member extends ~15' off an elevated access platform. A positioning winch raises / lowers a bos'n's chair while a man-rated three-way winch provides emergency fall arrest and recovery.

Agile Safety stands behind its work. That's Chris conducting an annual inspection.
